Kisumu County Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has bought drums and distributed them to various public spots in the city in efforts to prevent and control the spread of Coronavirus in the county. This happened at a time his Mombasa County counterpart Ali Hassan Joho fixed pipes on both channels to help combat the deadly virus.
This act has not sunk well with some of political commenters, one Seth Odongo alias Dikembe had the following observations:
“Prof Nyong’o decided to buy ‘darams’ which to me is typical tenderpreneur-type response to disasters. No sustainability at all. Mombasa County on the other hand, Gov. Joho fixed pipes along major public access areas which will definitely outlive the Corona virus. Running water is a tap away.” He observed.

Adding, “You will hear rumors that of those two counties one is led by a professor and the other by ‘a D- material’. Governor Ali Hassan Joho has demystified the initial obsession with education as a ticket to good governance. He has exposed it as utter idiocy. Of course around Governor Joho are some of the smartest and most practical people you’ll ever find; and many of them are very young people. But the bulk stops with the governor. He is the policy head of the county.” He stated
In his views, “Kisumu County is a shame!”
He went on to explain that, “This is the one place the collective pride of the Luo community is domiciled. Kisumu should be the intellectual headquarter of the Luo community. That means people there should at least use their heads 80% of the time (ordinarily in the other three Luo counties, county officials use their heads just 40% of the time so there’s nothing much to expect).
“Today if you take a poll in Luo Nyanza whether, based on the performance of the three governors and their county governments, the management of critical functions should remain at county or be taken over by national government; the result will shock you.”
