(Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu at CoG meeting)
Photos of a dejected Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu alias Babayao at council of governors meeting has featured online.
Waititu who appeared out of place, confused and not prepared for anything attended the Movenpick Hotel meeting to elect COG executive members.
His dress code and appearance painted a picture of his former self, a defeated person and someone whose only hope of getting back to office lies in the council of governors.
At the meeting Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was re-elected the Chairman of the Council of Governors, his vice remained Murang’a county Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and Makueni Governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana was elected their Chief whip.
The Kiambu Governor was charged in court over myriad corruption allegations.
A highly inflated tender worth Sh588,198,328.20 was awarded to Testimony Company Limited and he allegedly received a benefit of Sh25,624, 500.
The said tender was meant for upgrading various gravel roads in Thika, Limuru, Gatundu North, Juja and Ruiru subcounties during the financial year 2017-2018.
Now EACC is seeking to recover a total of Sh147,274,055.39 that has so far been paid to Testimony as they believe it constitutes the proceeds of corrupt conduct.
Both Waititu and wife Susan were charged over the same. At the same time her daughter Njeru Ndung’u was found with sh100 million in her bank account.
It’s these corruption cases that has seen him being barred by the Nairobi’s high court from accessing his office.
