English premier league top side Arsenal FC has sacked their head coach Unai Emery after a string of poor performances this season.
The message of Unai Emery’s departure was communicated this afternoon by the Arsenal board. Unai’s job has been on the line this year after poor displays by the team on the pitch as well as off-the-pitch cold war with players. This has been coming since some of the Arsenal players have been seen liking tweets and posts on Instagram calling for his sacking.
The most recent loss that might have triggered this was yesternight’s loss against Frankfurt in the Europa League. Arsenal gave away a 1-0 lead and were beaten in 2-1 in the second half. The team has been known to give away leads and settle for draws or losses this season. Unai Emery’s relationship with players hasn’t been cosy too. His decision to let Aaron Ramsey leave the club at the end of last season did not go well with most fans. Lucas Torreira has complained of being played out of position while Mesut Ozil has been left out of the team until recently.
The Arsenal board has settled on the team’s former player and a member of the invincible side Freddie Ljungberg to oversee the first team as interim coach. The hunt for Unai Emery’s replacement is on according to the club. Those in the lead to land the job at the Emirates stadium include Mauricio Pochettino and Maxmilliano Allegri.
