Kenya’s largest maternity health facility Pumwani Maternity Hospital is set to open an Outpatient service department in first week of December 2019.
“We are now ready to open the outpatient service department in one week’s time,” says Geoffry Mosiria, the Pumwani Maternity hospital’s administrator.
Mr Mosiria said that opening the Pumwani Maternity Hospital’s outpatient service department is meant to decongest Mama Lucy, Kenyatta National Hospital and Mbagathi hospitals.
“The outpatient service department is meant to decongest Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital, Mbagathi hospital and KNH” he told 254News.
The outpatient department is designed for the treatment of patients who visit the hospital for diagnosis or treatment mainly of maternal cases but also including cervical cancer screening, accident and emergency cases.
“It will handle issues that are related to maternal care that is infections, blood sugars among women, cervical cancer and pressure, also accident and emergency cases” said Mr Mosiria. Geoffrey Mosiria is one of the youngest hospital administrator in Nairobi county.
Pumwani Maternity Hospital line with UHC agenda
The unveiling of Pumwani Maternity Hospital Outpatient services is in line with implementation of Universal Health Care (UHC) agenda. This is one of the pillars under President Kenyatta’s Big Four agenda. Governor Mike Sonko has been on the forefront of championing for the Big 4 agenda. He had promised to improve health facilities in Nairobi county.
“It’s part of implementation of the big 4 agenda” he said.
The Department has been equipped with state of art equipments to ensure Kenyans get quality healthcare services.
“Yes it has all the modern equipments” he confirmed.
The Pumwani Maternity Hospital outpatient service is going to improve the hospital revenue generation. This will help improve on their service delivery. Currently, they purely depend on NHIF, which delays reimbursements.
Asked if the hospital will have additional staff Mr Mosiria said “We are going to utilize the existing staff”
The hospital will be expecting between 200 to 300 patients per day.
