The Kisumu County Governor Prof Nyong’o has today launched construction of a Radiotherapy center that will cost up to one billion.
The launch of the radiotherapy center sets Kisumu on a journey to establish a premier cancer center that will be the focal point for comprehensive oncology management within the western circuit and the entire Lake Region Economic Bloc counties.
The Ksh. 350 million phase one is expected to be completed within two years. However the estimated completion time for the one billion cancer centre is five years.
Once complete, the centre will be able to offer comprehensive oncology services such as; radiotherapy, chemotherapy and palliative care to cancer patients across the region.
Governor Prof Nyong’o also launched Kisumu Sickle Cell Initiative. This initiative will see a clinic being established at Jaramogi Oginga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) to help address its high prevalence among newborns.
