President Uhuru Kenyatta has more flaws compared to his achievements. His government has been accused of corruption, hypocrisy, tribalism, tender-preneurship, inequity, extra-judicial killings, just to name a few. However, out of these numberless flaws, there is much stuff that Opposition Leader Hon. Raila Odinga can emulate. To start with, President Kenyatta never allows his name to be used by aspirants in their quest for leadership. This case is common in the opposition’s camp where the Opposition Leader’s name is frequently used. To make it worse, aspirants would even abuse each other to be considered for party nomination certificates. The phrase“We have been with Raila” should cease.

“Let no one invoke my name in their quest for leadership. I have not sent anyone to vie for any seat. Let the people decide.” H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta. He added, “Neither the Deputy President nor I have preferred candidates for any position. Nobody should say that I have been sent by the President or the Deputy President. If you need to win, engage the wananchi (the people) and we will work with any leader that wananchi (the people) choose. We will respect their decision.”

The Head of State does not interfere with party nominations and primaries. The Opposition Leader has been accused, not ones, twice or thrice but severally, of taking the party nominations and primaries personal. He decides who should be given party nomination certificate in some areas irrespective of the popularity of that particular candidate. In the last general election of 2013, there emerged several interference that were linked to him.

The first incident was the Siaya County gubernatorial ODM party nominations where Mr.William Oduol was rigged out in favor of Hon. Oburu Odinga. In kisumu, the party rigged out Mr. Jack Ranguma in favor of Ms. Ruth Odinga during the party nominations leaving the Kisumu County voters to demonstrate till, he (Jack Ranguma) was given party nomination certificate for the post of governorship. Later Ms. Ruth Odinga became the deputy governor. In Migori County, the party had a Raila man in the person of Prof Oyugi Akong’o. He was handed in Orange Democratic Movement nomination Certificate forcing the current Migori County Governor H.E. Okoth Obado to opt for another party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP).Obado won with a landslide.

Hon. Eng. James Rege the current Member of Parliament of Karachuonyo Constituency was not nominated by the people during the ODM party nominations but he was handed in ODM nomination certificate amidst demonstration in the entire constituency. The same was evident in the case of former Member of Parliament Changamwe Constituency, Hon. Ramadhan Seif Kajembe. Hon. Kajembe was handed in the ODM certificate for Mombasa County senate position but he ended up losing to people’s choice Hon. Omar Sarai who vied on a Wiper ticketin the 2013 general election.

Uhuru is not endorsing people during campaigns, let Baba emulate the same. The voters never took it well with his choices like Senator Moses Kajwang, Hon. Steven Kariuki. Let the people make their own choices.

As a team, we are looking forward for a day when the Opposition Leader Raila Odinga will echo these words of President Kenyatta,

“Nobody should seek votes through my name. Endorsements are undemocratic. People should go out and seek votes in a democratic manner and not through endorsements. Talk to the people and seek for votes but not under my name.”

About Opposition Leader’s family vying for political seats, let the people decide.
